Today we would like to know about simple and non-surgical treatment, filler & Botox!

We used to think patients who would fly all the way to Korea for cosmetic procedures might have an idea what filler and Botox since they are one of the most basic steps before considering actual surgery. However it does not really seem to be familiar with patients as I expected. It is also easy to get confused the different use of them.

 

So, we would like to know what exactly they are!

 

 

 

 

BOTOX

What is composed of Botox is 'Botulinum toxin', which is made from the bacteria that cause botulism. It blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing temporary reduction in muscle activity.

 

When we are explaning Botox to our patients, it paralyzes certain part of muscle so that its activities get reduced as well as the appeared size is reduced.

Botox can be injected various areas mostly. It is most commonly used for the facial areas where muscle action is much involved such as forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow's feet or etc. For square jaw, the shape could be caused not only by the original size of the jaw bone or chubby fat, but more from using the muscle a lot when chewing so it is perfectly treated with Botox injection.

Besides facial areas, Botox also used for Trapezius muscles (to smoothen out the connecting line from the neck to the shoulder/done a lot in Korea for the brides before a wedding to make the fit better), Gummy smile (who tends to show the gummy a lot while smiling), Calf reduction (whose calf muscles are over-developed) or Hyperhidrosis (underarm odor).

Botox type 1: Meditoxin

It is kind of Botox made in Korea, and popular among patients who look for resonable price since the price is comparatively cheaper than the ones made in US.

It is made by US company which started using Botox for cosmetic purpose the first.
It is popular among patient who believes in both brand and quality.

1) Who has angular or visible jaw line due to over-developed angle

2) Who are concerned with facial wrinkles such as forehead, glabella, dimpled chin or etc.

3) Who wants immediate return to normal life after treatment

4) Who are concerned with bulging calf muscle

5) Who has hyperhidrosis that abnormally sweats on palm, axilla, or etc.

Filler

Then what is filler? It is also called as 'injectable filler' which is a soft tissue filler injected into the skin to help filling in facial wrinkles or depressions, restoring a smoother appearance. There are differet kinds of fillers depending on what is the component yet Hyaluronic acid is most commonly used since it is safe, absorbable, and easily fixable if the shape is not what patient wanted.

Filler can be injected into almost every depression areas inlcuding wrinkles. It could be either used to fill the depression or volume up the original protrusion. In Korea, it is popular to inject filler under eyes called 'Loveband (Aegyosal)', nose bridge&tip, and the lips. Since the amount is absorbed as time goes, patient may do the next session or continues doing the repetitive sessions if wanting to keep the after look.

Filler type 1: Retylane

It is one of the most used filler brand in the world made in US. It is composed of Hyaluronic acid and the effect lasts up to a year depending on injection areas.

Filler type 2: NEURAMIS

There are literally dozens of filler brands only in Korea (there must be more than hundreds in the world) and Neuramis has been quite popular in Korea recently. It is comparatively cheaper than Restylane but the effect lasts similarly.
