What's UP, Korea?) Hanbok, the beautiful tradition of Korea + K Drama 'Princess Hours'

Hello ST People~

How are you all?

Yesterday, I posted about Korean New Year and mentioned I would post about Hanbok, Korean traditional clothing~

And I think it would make you more easily understand how this clothing is expressed in Korea cultures such as K drama. I would like to introduce one of the most popular Korean drama which was aired in 2006!

궁 (Princess Hours)

Actually 궁 means a palace but it was written as Princess Hours (which I don't understand why? Probably the story of the drama was played from the main actress who used to be a normal teen becoming a princess after marrying the prince.

궁 was very popular comic book and had lots of fans who loved the comic book! One of the reason for its popularity was probably the main characters were expressed so pretty and handsome and the heroine of the book was dressed in so beautiful fushion Hanbok.

But, there was an argument regarding the casting of the heroine. The role was played by the actress 'Yoon Eun-hye' who used to be a singer and started acting for the very first time as the main actress of the drama.

Yoon Eun-hye was favored with her healthy image in many variety shows which did not match to the heroine of the book who is quite skinny and fragile what needed protecting. The photo above is how people used to compare the character to the reality.

I also worried about it too (I was big fan of the comic book!) but Yoon Eun-hye blew everyone's worries and did perfect job!

윤은혜 Yoon Eun-hye, actress (former singer)
She used to be a member of popular Korean girl group 'Baby V.O.X' and changed her career as an actress. Her acting was not that good in the beginning but she did continue acting in different dramas and became really popular after playing '커피프린스 (The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince)' as well as Gong Yoo who played the hero of the drama.

주지훈 Ju Ji-hoon, actor (former model)
Ju Ji-hoon used to be known as a professional model and changed his career as an actor. He is now very popular and recognized (his recent movie is mega hit in Korea now~) but was also very new at acting when he was known to be casted as the hero of the drama. Despite all controversy, he did a good job as a prince and became popular after it~

송지효 Song Ji-hyo, actress
If you are interested in Korean entertainments, you might have heard of her name~ She has been doing awesome job at one of the most famous SBS variety shows 'Running Man'. She is now popular in many Asian countries as the variety became popular but she was already recognized actress before that~ She played a role of the hero's x-girlfriend and was soooo pretty in the drama!

김정훈 Kim Jeong Hoon, singer
Kim Jeong Hoon, I would say he is too amazing to be true! He entered 'Seoul University Dental School', the dream university of every Koreans, and not only him but his father and brothers are all genius as well. He made his debut as R&B duo UN in 2000 (which means he does good singing too!!) and he now looks handsome but was really really beautiful handsome man when he firstly known. I would not say he is an good actor but suited the role of the drama~

The opening of Princess Hours

I remember my heart was so beating when I was watching this opening before the drama began.

Also the drama ended with sooo adorable Teddy bears that dressed like the main characters of the episode~ So cute!!!

Shin Chae-kyeong (played by Yoon Eun-hye)
(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)

I would say the drama Princess Hours is all about Chae-kyeong's fashion! She wore so many different fushion Hanbok that people could tell how much efforts the staffs put on the clothing.

In early episodes which were about Chae-kyeong's new life in the palace, she wore more girly dresses.

On their first night after getting married!
In the drama, Prince Shin played by Ju Ji-hoon weas suit like all men in the drama do and wear traditional clothing on very important events. Chae-kyeong, however, wears Hanbok or fushion Hanbok most of the times in the palace.

Chae-kyeong also wore lovely modern fashion as well~

This was Prince Shin's secret place where he used to hide from others and Chae-kyeong happened to find where he was at! So cute~!

His mom was so beautiful in the drama!

They were playing~ I forgot the name of the play but it is similar to golf in modern time!

He is Prince Yul who could not become the king because Shin was the first in line to the throne! They all attended the same school and those three teens are Cha-kyeong's bf!

The couple always goes to his grandmother for morning call and you can see alle the ladies are dressed in Hanbok~ (in the past time, men did the same but the men in the drama were dressed in suit since the drama was fiction and cartoon based.)

경복궁 Gyeongbokgung Palace
(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)

I once posted about Gyeongbokgung palace which is placed in the center of Seoul, the capital of Korea. They are still kept as modern&traditional way and Princess Hours were taken in the palace! It is open to public all the time (except late at night) and I strongly recommend all the visitors who come to Korea go there and experience the amazing structures of Korea.

For royal familes, you need guards too, right? They are all in suit!
