What's UP, Korea?) What to eat after surgery ? 본죽(Bonjuk)

Hello ST People~

How are you all?

Today, I'm going to post about post-operative foods or the food for the day of surgery.
I've been thinking about writing it and finally doing it today!

In Korea, we have a food called '죽(Juk/ porridge)' which is mostly made based on rice with different ingredients. The point of the food is to make the rice being cooked with more water and make it soft to eat.

In the past time, 죽 was like the kind of food you would eat when you are sick or in not a good condition to eat proper meal, but the culture did change after the appearance of this brand! '본죽(Bonjuk)' !

본죽 (Bonjuk)
This is the first brand (I believe) that made the existing image of 죽 in Korea that the food is found when sick, but changed that you can still enjoy the food in different situations.

I personally love 죽 therefore sometimes cook myself at home with some chicken or eggs in, so of course I like this place!!!!! 본죽(Bonjuk) is chain store soitis not hard to find its branch around~ (In Gangnam area where lots of plastic surgery clinics gathered or where hospitals are around, you can find it easily)

Few years ago, they added some stores called '본죽&비빔밥 까페(Bonjuk&Bibimbap cafe)' to include more fresh menus~

This is how the store looks like!
Most of stores have around 5-10 tables and serve the food in 15-20mins when you order~

If you cannot read Korean? Don't worry!
When you take a seat, they will provide you table menu with English explanation in!

Not only at the store, but you can also take out!
My personal tip is that ask them to devide into two servings (do you see the main dish on the right side?) The food is mostly served in one serving but you could possibly find it hard to finish at once (unless you are a man or big eater) so you can ask them to devide into several servings depending on your preferred amount~

I mostly ask to devide into two, and you could ask up to four (I believe). They would add around 1,000KRW for deviding so check out how much before order~

Whether you eat at the store or take out, they serve four side dishes; 동치미(dongchimi/radish water kimchi), 김치(kimchi/regular kimchi), 장조림(jangjorim/beef boiled down in soy sauce), and 오징어 초무침(ojingeo cho muchim/Squid with Vinegar Dressing) !

The only difference between eating at store and take out is that you cannot ask for more at home~ At store, you could ask them for more amount if you like the taste~

* The last one is missing on the photo above! It is the very red one on the left below~ (it looks red but not a spicy dish~)

So~ what are most popular menus???

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)
전복죽(Jeonbok-juk; Abalone Rice Porridge)
10,000KRW
If you like seafood? Must try menu!
Abalone is quite expensive in Korea and is treated as kinda luxurious ingredient.
I think 본죽(Bonjuk)'s cost is effective especially for this porridge, because they serve the piece of abalone in quite big size~

Every porridge has ground sesame and seaweed so you can mix them with the porridge when you eat~ (the tase of them are not too strong, so I believe people who are new to seaweed can easily try as well!)

Look at the size of abalone piece! It is incomparable to other stores' !

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)
불낙죽(Bulnak-juk; Beef&Octopus porridge) 9,000KRW
What about the combination of seafood and meat?
This has more taste compared to Abalone porridge since beef has bit of saltiness and is more chewy~

Look at how nicely it is decorated on the top!

It is one of the most popular menu among yonger generation and also preferred for those who would like to have proper meal at 본죽(Bonjuk) !

삼계죽(Samgye-juk; Ginseng&Chicken porridge) 10,000KRW
Korean loves chicken that we have representing culture '치맥(Chimaek/Chicken and Beer)' (especially in summer season~)

Chicken porridge has been always popular for a long time and I remember my mom used to cook chicken soup with it!

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)

They put a whole piece of ginseng here! Ginseng is one of the main ingredients Korean use when cooking chicken (not fried, but boiled way) so that it can get rid of chicken's unique smell as well as maximizes the nutritions!

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)

But! The taste of Chicken porridge could be little bland since there is not seasoned except the ground sesame&seaweed and some vegetables, so you could enjoy better with provided side dishes~

낙지김치죽(Nakji&kimchi-juk; Octopus&kimchi porridge) 8,500KRW
How does this look? Really spicy??
Actually NOT! Becasue it is my favorite menu there! (I can't eat spicy T_T)

This is one of the most regular meal like porridge that has nicely combinating taste of octopus and kimchi~

I first tried this in 2014 and remember that I had this everyday straight for 2 weeks beause I loved the taste! (the taste could be little bit different by branches but mostly quite similar)

Since this already has certain seasonings from kimchi, you would not need side dishes that much, but don't forget 장조림(jangjorim/beef boiled down in soy sauce) if you feel something sweet&salty together!

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)
호박죽(Hobak-juk; Pumpkin porridge) 8,000KRW
I would say this is the most popular menu not only at 본죽(Bonjuk) but wherever porridges are sold~ It has both salty and sweet taste of pumpkin and we eat this all the time~

Especially for patients who had done surgery, I recommend this for the first. Most of patients lose appetite after the surgery due to long fasting time and is tired from the surgery, but I'm sure everyone will love the sweetness of it!

(ST Plastic Surgery Clinic, Korea)

It has little rice cake ball as well as redbeans~ The rice cake ball is chewy and Koreans mostly love, but I might not recommend those patients who had done facial contouring or facial lifting surgeries and are not comfortable with chewing.

Again! Sweet gets even better with bit of saltiness!

I'm going to have porridge for today's lunch with my co-worker~ I can't wait! >_<!!!!!
